Our Easter Baskets

Spring is one of my favorite times of the year, especially in Charleston. The days begin to get warmer, and colorful flowers burst into bloom all around, reflecting the spirit of the Easter season.

Growing up, our Easter traditions were simple and special. The Easter Bunny would leave a small toy and some candy in our baskets then hide the baskets and eat the carrot we had left. I have wonderful memories of my brother and me searching for our baskets on Easter morning and the excitement in finding them. We were always allowed to eat one piece of candy before church - typically a Cadbury Creme Egg, Peeps, or a piece of one of those hollow chocolate bunnies.

My oldest was two when I first started hiding baskets for Easter morning. I was very practical about what went in them that year and the next few years. I included things like new swimsuits and goggles - summers in Charleston pretty much begin in April, so I got things they needed anyway. Kendra Adachi at the Lazy Genius puts it best: "Make one decision about one thing one time than never again (or at least until the decision stops working)." I made the decision that summer essentials would make up the bulk of our Easter baskets.

For various reasons, that decision isn't the best for us anymore, so I'm changing it up this year! My new decision is for our Easter baskets to have one toy, one book, and some "traditional" Easter candy.  So as long as this decision keeps working for us, it is how I will plan our Easter baskets.

I saw some lovely baskets that I really wanted to splurge on this year, but I waited too long and they sold out. I ended up finding these plastic baskets for $1 at Target and personalized them with my Cricut. (Way better for the budget!) I figure the kids can also use them for collecting shells at the beach this summer.

If you enjoy a plan like me, think about coming up with one for your Easter baskets. Simplify things by making a decision this year and sticking with at as long as it works for you. And, most importantly, take the time to enjoy the beauty of this season!

xoxo
